Safety of Colors manufactured by D.D. Williamson
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has recently become aware of rice protein concentrate and wheat gluten imported from China as being contaminated with melamine, an industrial chemical used to make plastics and fertilizers.
D.D. Williamson wants to assure our customers that, to the best of our knowledge and belief, our colors pose no risk of melamine contamination. This conclusion is based on the fact that our colors are not manufactured with rice protein concentrate or wheat gluten. In the event the contamination is expanded to include soy protein, rice bran, corn meal, or corn gluten, D.D. Williamson would like to be proactive in responding to concerns by assuring our customers that our colors are also not manufactured with soy protein, rice bran, corn meal, or corn gluten.
The FDA implemented strong precautionary measures to protect the nation’s pet food as well as to conduct a full investigation to determine any impact on the human food supply. The agency is now sampling all rice protein concentrate and wheat gluten imported from China, and it is ready to increase its surveillance of other products if necessary. D.D. Williamson will continue to aggressively follow the FDA investigation to assure the safety of our colors as food ingredients.
D.D. Williamson is dedicated to providing our customers with safe, high quality products. Thank you for your continued interest in our colors. Please feel free to contact us with additional questions or concerns.
