Caramel Color No. 528 is useful in applications where a yellow shade is desired. While No. 528 is not acid proof, it is suitable for use in alcoholic beverages; being brilliantly clear in both water and 120° alcohol.
A small amount of clouding agent can be added to increase the light backscatter and intensify the yellow effect. By the addition of a very small amount of dilute FD & C Blue No. 1, a close approximation of the shade, but not the brilliance, of FD & C Yellow No. 5 can be achieved. Mixing in additional FD & C Blue No. 1 provides exceptionally vivid green shades.
